What affects the final price

  • Distance from the electrical panel to the hot tub or sauna location
  • Wiring route complexity — indoor walls, conduit runs, obstacles
  • Hot tub amperage requirements (40A vs. 60A circuit)
  • Panel capacity — a subpanel or service upgrade may be needed for older homes
  • Permit fees, which vary by municipality
All pricing is provided upfront in your itemized quote. We assess your panel and site conditions before committing to a number — no hidden charges added on installation day.

We review panel capacity, wiring route, and permit requirements, then send you an itemized quote. If anything needs a site visit to confirm, we'll arrange it before locking in the price.

3

Installation Day

We handle the permit, show up on time, and complete the dedicated circuit, GFCI breaker, spa disconnect, bonding, and grounding. Most projects are done in a single day.

4

Inspection & Sign-Off

We coordinate the inspection with TSBC or your city's electrical department, pass the sign-off, and walk you through everything before we leave.

We handle the permit — no paperwork on your end. Ready to book? Contact us →

Panel Capacity

Hot tubs (40–60A) and saunas (30–50A) are high-draw appliances — older 100A panels often can't spare the room.
A subpanel is usually the most cost-effective fix. If you're also adding an EV charger or heat pump, a 200A service upgrade might be the smarter long-term move.
We assess your panel at quote time and recommend only what you actually need.

Safety & Code

Unpermitted hot tub wiring can void your home insurance and create liability if something goes wrong.
The spa disconnect must be within sight of the tub and at least 5 ft from the water — required by BC Electrical Code.
All metal components around the hot tub must be bonded to eliminate dangerous voltage differences between surfaces.

FAQ

Common Questions

Most standard hot tubs require a 40A, 50A, or 60A dedicated 240V circuit, depending on the model, jet count, and heater size. We review your hot tub's electrical spec sheet before installation and size the circuit accordingly. An undersized circuit causes nuisance tripping, heater damage, and safety hazards.

Water and electricity create a serious shock risk. A GFCI breaker detects current leakage as small as 5 milliamps and cuts power in milliseconds — well before a dangerous level is reached. The BC Electrical Code mandates GFCI protection for all 240V hot tub circuits. It's non-negotiable for safety and for passing inspection.

The disconnect must be within line of sight of the hot tub so you can see it while in the water, and at least 5 feet from the water's edge so someone in the tub cannot reach it. We verify placement against BC Electrical Code requirements before installation.

Yes — all new hot tub and sauna electrical connections in BC require an electrical permit. This triggers an inspection by TSBC or your city's electrical department (Vancouver, Burnaby, and several other municipalities run their own inspection programs). We handle the permit on your behalf — no paperwork for you.

Skipping the permit can void your home insurance and create liability if anything goes wrong.

It depends on your service size and available breaker space. Many older 100A panels are already loaded and can't spare 40–60A for a hot tub. We review your panel at quote time:

  • If there's capacity, we run the circuit directly — simplest and lowest cost
  • If the panel is full, a subpanel is usually the most economical fix
  • If you're on 100A service and also planning an EV charger or heat pump, a 200A service upgrade may make the most sense long-term

Common causes:

  • Fault inside the hot tub — a leaking heater, pump, or ozone unit; this is a hot tub service issue, not electrical
  • Incorrect or undersized wiring — common after DIY installations
  • Moisture in the disconnect or conduit — outdoor enclosures degrade over time
  • Worn GFCI breaker — they don't last forever, especially outdoors

We can diagnose and fix the electrical side. If the problem is inside the hot tub's components, you'll need a hot tub service tech for that part.

Yes — and we recommend it. We can run the circuit, install the GFCI breaker and spa disconnect in advance so the hookup is quick once your hot tub is delivered. Just send us the electrical spec sheet so we size the circuit correctly from the start.

Traditional and infrared saunas typically need a 240V dedicated circuit at 30–50 amps depending on the heater's kilowatt rating. Requirements include:

  • Minimum #10 AWG copper wire (larger for longer runs or higher amperage)
  • GFCI protection near heat and moisture sources
  • Wiring and junction boxes rated for high-temperature environments

We wire and connect — we don't install sauna heaters, benches, or ventilation systems.

Yes. We can reroute the wiring, reposition the disconnect, and ensure the new setup is fully code-compliant and inspected. Depending on the new location distance from the panel, a new permit will likely be required.

Most projects are completed in a single day. Timing depends on the run distance, routing complexity, and whether a panel upgrade is needed. We confirm the schedule when we book your installation.
