Signs You're Ready for a Level 2 Charger

If any of these sound familiar, a dedicated Level 2 install is the right next step.

You just bought (or are about to buy) an EV and standard wall-outlet charging is too slow.

You want a faster, dedicated circuit that charges overnight without tripping breakers.

You're not sure if your existing panel has enough capacity for a charger.

You need a permitted, code-compliant install for a home, suite, or strata unit.

Our Approach

The Installation Process

EV charger installation starts from $750 + GST

Electrical permit fees are additional and vary by city.

Final pricing depends on the installation method best suited to your home.

Panel not in the garage, or more than 10 ft from the charger location — additional charges apply.

Send Your Details

These details let us run a load calculation and provide a quote:

  • Installation address — confirms local permit requirements
  • Electrical panel photos — main panel, main breaker, sub-panels, and all circuit labels; make sure labels are legible
  • Charger installation location photos — intended charger spot and distance from the panel; clear shots help us assess routing accurately
  • Appliance list — heating type, electric stoves, hot tubs, A/C units and other high-demand appliances, etc.

How We'll Connect Your Charger

Every permitted install starts with a load calculation and panel check. Based on your home's capacity, we recommend the right approach — done safely and to BC Electrical Code.

When capacity allows

Direct Installation

When your load calculation confirms enough spare capacity, we run a clean, dedicated circuit straight to your charger — the most straightforward option, with no extra device needed.

Typical circuit: 30A – 50A · No additional equipment cost
Common

Smart Load Management (EVEMS)

Avoid a pricey service upgrade. A smart load-sharing device powers your charger from the spare capacity your home already has — full charging speed, far less cost than upgrading. The standard for most permitted installs.

e.g. DCC Load Management System Install, Black Box Electrical Load Management

Typical circuit: 40A – 50A · Equipment cost applies
BC Hydro offers a $200 rebate on eligible EVEMS devices — must be installed by a licensed contractor alongside a Level 2 charger. Check eligibility →
Budget-friendly

Interlock Solution

Your charger safely shares an existing heavy circuit (like the dryer), so no new capacity is needed. The only trade-off — you can't run both at the same time.

When needed

Service Upgrade

When your home truly needs more power — or you're planning other big additions like a heat pump, hot tub, or A/C — we upgrade your service. Doing it once now means you won't pay for a second upgrade later.

FAQ

Common Questions

Not necessarily. We do a load calculation first — many homes can support a Level 2 charger as-is. If your panel is near capacity, an EVEMS load-management device can often let you avoid a costly service upgrade. We assess your panel and recommend only what you actually need.

Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and adds about 4–10 km of range per hour. Level 2 uses a dedicated 240V circuit and adds 30–50 km per hour — most EV owners charge fully overnight with Level 2.

A standard residential EV charger installation typically takes 2–4 hours from start to finish — including panel work, running the circuit, mounting, and testing. Quality comes first — actual time depends on the specifics of each project.
